Does A 2 MOA Dot Matter That Much?

Dot Size Selection

Different red dot sizes cover the target down range different. Sometimes a bigger dot can obscure the overall size of the target.

Red Dot Sight MOA Sizes

2 MOA dot will cover 2 inches at 100 yards and 1 inch at 50 yards.

4 MOA dot will cover about 4 inches at 100 yards and 2 inches at 50 yards.

The 2 MOA dot is big enough and also small enough for accurate distanced and close up shooting. It's common for rifle carbine applications.

The smaller the dot, the easier it is to aim precisely at a target far away without covering most of the target.

Using A Red Dot Sight At Night

trijicon sro pov low light

For more precise aiming, please try a uncluttered 2 MOA dot with a red dot magnifier to zoom in on the target under low light.

Also recommend using a weapon light once in complete darkness

For Astigmatism

shooters with astigmatism see this

Correct vision or wear glasses typically solve the blurry reticle problem

Assuming the shooter has minor astigmatism, the bigger the dot above 3+ MOA, the rounder the dot will appear and the brightness starburst doesn't tend up cover up the whole dot.

Go try it and see for yourself.

Once the shooter with bad eye sight understands this part, they will look for bigger dots especially for pistol applications such as 3 MOA, 5 MOA, 6 MOA and even as big as 12 MOA.
