Ways To Test

Relax your eye first, and try this free online tests to help you determine whether you have astigmatism or not.

  • Test each eye separately
  • Then test both eyes.
  • Maintain sufficient distance from your testing screen.
  • Note abnormalities in depth and intensity of darkness.

Someone with astigmatism will see:

  • Some of the lines on the image appear darker in certain directions than in others
  • more horizontal lines more clearly and spaced wider apart than they will be able to see vertically oriented lines

  • With a 14-inch screen, position yourself about 74 centimeters from the screen
  • With a 15-inch screen, position yourself about 1 meter from the screen
  • With a 17-inch screen, position yourself about 1.5 meters from the screen
  • With a 20-inch screen, position yourself 2.2 meters from the screen
  1. Cover one eye with your hand without pressing on the eyelid.
  2. Look at the image and pay attention to how the lines appear.
  3. If some lines appear lighter and some appear darker, you likely have astigmatism.
  4. Repeat the test for both eyes.
