Features & Uses
Lumen
1200 lumens at 100 ft
The BATON 3 is designed as a pocket size everyday carry light for low profile use. The user can cycle through 3 lumen intensities:
- 1200 lumens for 1.5 mins, then back down to 300 lumens for 75 mins
- 300 lumens for 95 mins
- 60 lumens for 7.5 hrs
- 12 lumens for 33 hrs
- 0.5 lumens moonlight for 20 days (0.5 lms is very useful for low light search or up-close illumination without being too bright or drawing too much attention. For example, looking under the seat for your keys at a dark movie theater)
0.5 lumens moonlight mode for up close use
In addition, the light features a strobe mode for signaling application.
Candela (Range)
The Olight Baton 3 has only 6889 candela rating, and it's much more than something like the Olight PL Mini as an EDC light.
6889 candela is the max performance at 1200 lumens, and it can realistically reach about 50 meters in the dark.
So for room size usage, the Baton 3 has no problem lighting up the scene.
Beam Pattern
The beam pattern on the Baton 3 is similar to a Streamlight TLR 7A but slightly less flood. Overall it can illuminate pretty much everything close by and upfront the user on 1200 and 300-lumen modes.
For 0.5 - 60 lumen intensities, the user still get the same beam pattern but less bright for up close low light use.
This little light pretty much included all illumination needs but WAY smaller for easy carry.
Side Control Switch
The control switch on the Olight Baton 3 is very simple to operate.
Press & hold - Cycle through lumen intensity
Quick tap 2X - Activates turbo mode 1200 lumens
Quick tap 3X - Activates strobe mode
Once a lumen intensity mode is selected, it's saved for future use until readjusted again.
The control switch is rubberized and the carry clip doesn't shift around, so the user can always index the finger at the right spot to operate the button even in the dark.
In addition, the battery level indicator is built in on the button, so the user can gauge when it's the best time to charge the battery again when it's flashing red.
Wireless Zippo Light Charger
The Premium edition comes with a Zippo lighter style charger for the BATON 3. Just insert the light in there and shut the cap to protect the light and also charge it.
The idea of putting something back inside the case to charge is similar to the Apple Airpods. This works very well if the user always forget to charge or not always have a cable readily available to plug in to charge.
What we like about it is that the user can charge light inside the container for people who always forget to charge the light or always lose the cable. You can charge the wireless charger via any USB C cable.
So just hook it up to a battery bank and you're good to go.
It's an unique design, and it's very innovative for simplicity and it makes it a great every day carry item.
Battery
The BATON 3 features Olight's proprietary 550mAh 3.7V IMR 16340 USB Rechargeable Battery.
Yes it's removeable from the light so you can immediately replace it with a fresh battery if the user doesn't have the time to charge the light.
The user can charge the battery via the USB cable or place it inside the Zippo lighter charger.
Note: the label "Fully charge the Baton 3 3.7 times" means it lasts more if you use it with the wireless charger. It doesn't mean to charge the Baton 3 3.7 separate times.
Size
The Olight Baton 3 is much smaller than the full size Olight M2R Warrior Pro tactical light, and it can pretty much do the same thing as the M2R minus couple features.
The Olight Baton 3 is as small as a car key fob. It's so small and light that it can be carried around like its nothing. The added retention clip can go on pockets, backpack straps, hat and everything else for easy access.
Clip on pocket
So small it fits in anything
Clips on hat
Stick to magnetic surfaces even horizontally without falling
Above all else, the light's magnetic tail section can go on any magnetic surfaces for hands free applications. Since the light is so light, it can even be mounted sideways without over like other full size tactical lights.
Durability
We drop tested the light and also submerged it in water. It just works and there is not much to it. As an small size EDC light we are not expecting this light to take harsh torture like a full size tactical light to withstand near destructive
Applications
The Baton 3 can be used for any every day carry applications. It's not a tactical light with fancy modes of operation, but it's good for the following activities:
- Close up low light book reading
- Low light search
- Use as a POV head light
- Working on cars
- Outdoor signaling
- Outdoor camping
- Photography lighting if necessary
- Mid range illumination
Final Verdict
