Surefire XH30 - Best Overall

mr920 surefire xh30 light

I choose to use the XH30 on my Shadow Systems MR920 because it's the top choice for a duty-grade handgun light in close-range, low-light situations. Let me tell you about its new strobe mode! It's designed to disorient threats, much like the TLR 1 HL does.

What I really like is how it balances throw and spill. It has a concentrated hot spot that helps me with distance searching in low light, and it also provides wide illumination for better situational awareness.

Another great feature is the slide always staying in battery. The light bezel extends past the muzzle, which ensures this. It's a smart design!

Mounting the light is a breeze too. It directly attaches to the rail with an adjustable tension thumb screw mount, and the best part is, it doesn't wear out the polymer rail frame, even if I switch lights often.

Durability is a big plus. The XH30 is built with mil-spec grade aluminum housing, so it withstands sharp recoil, drops, and everyday handling without issues. The reliability is a non negotiable criteria for me.

Features:

  • 1000 Lumens (Surefire TIR Lens)
  • 11300 Candela
  • 2 CR123A Batteries
  • 4.8 oz
  • 3.7 in
  • IPX7

Streamlight TLR 7A Flex - Best Compact Size

shadow system mr920 streamlight tlr 7a

I love my Streamlight TLR 7A; it's the top choice for my Shadow Systems MR920 because it's compact and perfect for concealed carry. Not only does it look awesome, but it also performs quite well in low light. It's incredibly light, adding just 2.4 ounces to the MR920, making it ideal for either keeping on my nightstand or carrying in my CCW holster.

Its low profile design is a big plus for concealed carry. The light bezel lines up with the muzzle, allowing for quick and smooth draws from the holster. The ambidextrous toggle switches are super easy to use. I can turn on the light with just a single finger press, which is really convenient.

Another cool thing is the built-in strobe mode. It's like a secret feature! You activate it through Streamlight's TEN TAPS programming. This feature is great for seeing everything around me, offering fantastic close-quarters battle illumination. It lights up the area up to 35 yards away and covers my 9 to 3 o'clock positions in low light conditions. It's perfect for staying aware of my surroundings. However, anything past 50 or 70 yards, I would want something with higher candela output to illuminate further.

Streamlight TLR 1 HL - Best Duty Use

shadow system mr920 streamlight tlr 1 hl

I often hear professionals talk about the TLR 1 HL as the top choice for a duty-grade pistol light, and I can see why once I attached it to my Shadow System MR920 pistol. This kind of brightness, especially with its wide beam pattern, really helps in identifying targets and clearing rooms, much like what the Surefire X300U can offer.

One thing I really appreciate is the simple toggle switches. They're super easy to use and don't require any hard pressing, which is a huge plus in high-pressure situations.

Then there's the replaceable lens bezel. During force-on-force training with simunition, if the bezel gets damaged, I can just replace that part instead of the whole light.

Lastly, the fast flashing strobe feature is super handy. Just a quick double tap on the switch, and I've got a tactical advantage, whether in training or real-world situations.

Features:

  • 1000 Lumens
  • 15000 Candela
  • 2 CR123A Batteries
  • 4.18 oz
  • 3.39 in
  • IPX7

Olight Valkyrie Turbo - Best LEP Light

shadow system mr920 olight valkyrie turbo

I recently got to try out the Olight Valkyrie Turbo, and let me tell you, it's a thrower light for lighting up distant spots in the dark. This gadget uses a LEP (Laser Excited Phosphor) technology, kind of like a laser, to produce a white beam that can reach an incredible distance of 500 to 540 meters.

Here's something cool: it packs up to 70K Candela. It's like attaching a rifle light, similar to the MODLITE OKW, right onto a pistol. The light it throws out is super focused, letting me see up to 500 meters away with a really concentrated hot spot. Plus, it has this nifty Auto Heat Protection feature. The brightness starts at 250 lumens but drops down after 4 minutes, eventually settling at 50 lumens for a solid 180 minutes.

Using it is a breeze too; it works just like the Olight PL Pro. It's got the usual light and strobe functions. But, there's a catch: because of the built-in heat protection system, the brightness level changes over time. For someone like me who needs consistent light during shooting training, this might not be ideal.

MODLITE PL350 - Best Interchangeability

shadow system mr920 modlite pl350 light

I'm using the MODLITE PL350 for my MR920 handgun, and I've got to say, it's the most modular pistol light I've ever used. This light comes with three interchangeable heads - PLHv2, OKW, and IR, or PLH 5K - which you can buy separately. It's like having the power of a rifle light on my MR920 for all low light scenarios. For pistol use, I personally recommend the PLH5K or PLHv2.

One of the coolest features is how easy it is to swap the heads. I can change the beam pattern to suit my needs without having to remove the whole light body. And speaking of beam patterns, the Modlite OKW head is amazing. Its throw is similar to the Olight Valkyrie Turbo, but it gives a better flood, which is perfect for close-quarters situations.

The control switches on this thing are top-notch. They're really easy to use, even when I'm wearing gloves, thanks to the PHLSTER ARC enhanced WML Switches. Plus, the beam color is more neutral or warm, which is easier on my eyes, especially in indoor or urban settings. Overall, it's an awesome addition to my Shadow System MR920 setup.

Features:

  • 1500 Lumens (PLH 5K)
  • 29000 Candela (PLH 5K)
  • 54000 Candela (PLHv2)
  • 1 18350 Battery

Olight PL Pro - Best For Training

olight pl ro vs streamlight tlr 1 hl side by side

I train with Olight because their PL Pro model is a cost-effective option for high-volume, low-light training. It's great because it has a USB rechargeable battery, so I don't have to keep buying new batteries.

The high lumen feature is powerful, providing illumination similar to other top-recommended lights. I also appreciate the quick detach mount; it lets me attach the light to my gun quickly and safely without needing tools or risking my hands near the muzzle.

The strobe mode is another plus. I can activate it by double-pressing both switches at the same time. And the best part? I can recharge it anywhere, anytime. It's convenient and saves money since I can use the light as much as I want and simply recharge it with a USB cord. This feature really makes Olight stand out for me.
